On Friday the 31st March 2017 we were joined by the Mayor of Chudleigh to present the private viewing of ‘THE ONE MAN SHOW’ by local artist MATTHEW DAVISON.  His collection features landscapes of the stunning Dartmoor National Park and they were well received on the night by all. Guests were treated to wine and food as they perused Matthew’s interesting take on the various moods of Dartmoor.

We were delighted with the amount of people who turned up for the private viewing and thank you to every one that came. If you would like to see these stunning pieces for yourself the exhibition continues until Thursday 13th April 2017 and we would be delighted to see you.

We are delighted to announce that we will be exhibiting paintings by artist Matthew Davison here at The Bracken Gallery from 1st – 13th April 2017.

Matthew Davison – Landscapes

You are warmly invited to pop by and view Matthew Davison’s show of new paintings entitled ‘Bright Spells’ – Atmospheric paintings of Dartmoor, taking off from where his sell-out successful show in September last year ‘Cloudy bright, some sunshine’ left off. Painting oils and acrylics inspired by Dartmoor and Devon.

We are holding a private viewing tomorrow night and we look forward to posting some photos of this exciting event.

We hope to see you soon. 🙂

Artist Chris Court fell for the beauty of the moor lands when she was a child. Born in Dorset, she would spend many family days admiring the beauty of the moors, so much so, that she now lives on the edge of Dartmoor where she is always on the look out for interesting scenes to feature in her wonderful pieces.

Chris creates her work at home in her summerhouse studio, however, the pieces that she creates are born out in the open where she takes photographs, sketches and records spoken word about the scenes. Using this holistic approach she creates some amazing pieces which she paints from a more emotional grounding to help convey feeling as well as depth, movement and expanse of space.

By using artist quality materials, Chris helps to ensure that if the pieces are properly cared for, their colour and vibrancy will last a lifetime of pleasurable years.

We are delighted to be exhibiting and selling the works of Chris Court here at The Bracken Gallery, some of the pieces we have here include titles such as Dartmoor Storm, Teign Estuary and Summer at Saddle Tor.

Pop in and take a look, allow these beautiful pieces to transport you to a place not too far away! 🙂

For further information about Chris Court please come and see us or visit Chris’s own website at

We were truly delighted to welcome so many to the gallery on Thursday evening, for the preview evening of our exhibition featuring the works of local artist Richard Thorn.

Richard was exhibiting his selection of original paintings featuring scenes of Chudleigh and other local areas. Visitors to the preview were treated to some exquisite work to view whilst enjoying a glass of wine and some nibbles with us.

Roy and some guests!

We really enjoyed chatting to you all and it was interesting listening to your stories and memories that were sparked by the unmistakeable locations featured in Richards work.

A lovely Chudleigh scene in all its glory.

Visitors to the gallery commented on the depth and detail in the paintings, some felt that they had photo like qualities from a distance but it wasn’t until they were closer to them that they could appreciate how much detail, light and shade was apparent.

Richard was also with us for some of the evening, he really enjoyed talking to so many about the paintings and what he saw from each of the featured locations.

The preview evening was great fun but if you missed it you can still call in to see the work of Richard Thorn until Thursday (we are closed tomorrow).

As lovers of art we are always thrilled to consider working with local artists. It gives us great pleasure to let you all know that we have some superb original seascapes by Teignmouth artist; Catherine Kennedy for sale.

Catherine Kennedys work brings a level of depth and movement.

Catherine Kennedys work brings a level of depth and movement.

Catherine says “My recent work has concentrated on the sea and I have tried to invoke an immersive element to my painting. I am interested in the process of change and development of an image over time.”

The above artist statement encapsulates the original works of Catherine Kennedy perfectly, as the oil on canvas work depicts depth, movement and evolution in a way that is enthralling to the eye. The seascapes are truly stunning and we are delighted to be exhibiting them.

As a gallery as well as a framing business we relish working with artists to display their works and bring these beautiful pieces to people in the local area. When we saw some prints by Kirsten Jones we were hooked and we are delighted to be displaying some of her work here in our gallery.

Kirsten was born in Hartlepool but grew up in the stunning surroundings of the Channel Islands, she now displays her works in Berkshire where her studio; Barn Acre Gallery is set on a quiet area of the river Thames. Kirsten also spends lot’s of time visiting Devon and Cornwall which is why we have been fortunate enough to meet her.

Kirsten has travelled all over the world but takes much inspiration from clothing, collections of objects and natural forms. Her work is created on paper using washes of acrylic and watercolour paint. Each of the Limited Edition Prints is hand worked and signed, they come with a short story which describes some of the background about how the ideas for the piece were conceived. The images are printed on Hahnemuhle Fine Art paper and are created using UV stable pigment inks.

For us, it is the background story supplied with the prints that make them a fabulous gift idea, the image below is one of the pieces that Kirsten has created in a series of different shoes, now wouldn’t this make a lovely special present for Mothers Day?

Richard Thorn is a Torquay born artist who’s works include some stunning seascapes, landscapes and beach scenes. Richard’s work is well known amongst some of the most prestigious galleries in England and we are delighted to announce that we are now displaying and selling some of his work here in The Bracken Gallery.

Richard Thorn began his career using watercolour as his preferred medium, he would love to paint seascapes, so much of his work is informed and influenced by the sea. Further down the line he began to bring in other mediums including acrylic and inks, this bought more texture and depth to his pieces.

In 2012 Richard was a finalist for Best Selling Artist of the Year and he has exhibited his work in many venues including being invited to take some works that he created in Portugal to stage an exhibition by the Portuguese embassy in London.
